That we live in a patriarchal society, is common knowledge. Men are behind most crimes in the world (I’m not kidding). Whether it’s rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence, road rage, murder or the crime of “HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ELECTRIC BLUE AND TURQUOISE?”, it is generally the man’s fault.
Just like I can’t tell two shades of blue apart, I also don’t really know why I feel guilty every time there is a day celebrating another woman’s contribution in our worthless lives. Mother’s Day, Rakshabandhan, Parent’s Day (also known as Mother Day v 2.0) and practically every other day of a more than average sexy person like me’s life is about being apologetic to women about everything. It just makes me feel so god-damn indebted and guilty! And it doesn’t help a small bit that I can’t spell Turquoise without the help of autocorrect. It’s not my fault, women! I am a good man who does a lot of nice things for you. I can’t really list them down because, well, men really can’t remember anything more significant than the password to their HD porn folder.
So, it came as a breath of fresh air (or deodorant, as you would see later) that we were told that today, Wednesday, 19th day of November, 2014, is International Men’s Day.
Drumroll
This day is meant to celebrate our existence and our contributions to this planet. The good ones, unlike the ones mentioned earlier. Interestingly, a brand has made the most of our suffering and made a catchy song about it. The song, almost like a summary of our daily struggles as men, is called “So Not fair!”
Good job, advertisers!
Have a look at the song, and wear blue to support our endangered species. Also, don’t forget to get yourself pampered today. Committed men must get a surprise from their beautiful partners and the singles must not forget the password to their special folders.
Trivia : The initial title of this article was “Playing The Sympathy Card For Sex”
Officially, this is why we celebrate men’s day today :
“The objectives of celebrating an International Men's Day include focusing on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. “
